Windana

Windana warmly welcomes you to our online exhibition of the Art Therapy Community Open Studios Project, Artful Remedy.

Open Studios play a vital role in supporting the artists’ recovery journey through developing alternative forms of expression and connectedness with their own self and community, with powerful symbols and meanings underpinning the work. The Open Studios project represents opportunities for the participants to benefit therapeutically and economically in this process. The custom of using artistic representation to promote therapeutic growth throughout the process of recovery from drug and alcohol problems is central to Windana’s principles.

The artworks presented in the exhibition represent a broad field of creative pieces, variously imagined and expressed. They are created through the enjoyment of creating for fun through to expressing and processing difficult personal experiences that frequently impact on recovery journey for people experiencing problems associated with drug and alcohol use. The art is the representation of the extent to which the individual artists lives are shaped and determined.

Because of the impact of COVID restrictions the Open Studios have adapted to using new ways of engaging with the Arts project via a variety of platforms. The artists have maintained creatively engaged in the work resulting in 80+ works in the exhibition.

The Open Studio participants represent diverse backgrounds and histories. We acknowledge and congratulate all of the artists who have the courage, trust, and connectedness to both participate in the Windana Art Therapy Community Open Studio and exhibit their art in the exhibition. We also acknowledge and thank Sandra Hatton – lead Art Therapist, the exhibition is an outstanding achievement for all involved.

Thank you for visiting and enjoy the exhibition.

We acknowledge the Traditional Owners of the land this art was created on, the Bunurong People, and pay respect to their Elders past, present and emerging.
